2025 Lunar New Year

A tribute to the 18th century, this box is dressed in red and gold to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Garden and pagoda motifs are repeated like a tapestry to form a lush motif that invites reverie.
It was during the reign of Louis XV that this Chinese-inspired style became most popular in France. It was inspired by Asian motifs and techniques. Some of its objects and furniture can be found at the MusĂ©e des Arts dĂ©coratifs in Paris, such as the panels of the Cabinet de laque at the HĂ´tel du Châtelet, or a sloping secretary in blue Martin varnish belonging to Madame de Pompadour... From one continent to another, from one country to another and from one factory to another, these themes spread, from copies to interpretations and the most unbridled fantasies, the variety is great, so popular is this style. François Boucher and Jean Pillement, Marie Antoinette's painter, were the pillars of this style. They painted numerous motifs of pagodas, flowers and cranes, which can also be found on certain Aubusson tapestries from the same period.Â
